April 20-22, 2018

9 am - 5 pm

Auto Club Speedway
9300 Cherry Avenue, Fontana, CA 92335

I hope you all had a nice and relaxing holiday season. It is that time of year again when I ask for your help with the California Festival of Speed (CFoS)! This year the festival is April 20st thru April 22rd with set-up on Thursday April 19th.

You may be asking…What is the CFoS and Zone 8? There are 144 Regions in the Porsche Club of America. The Regions are divided into 14 Zones and your Region is located within Zone 8. As a PCA member, you can participate in any Region’s activities! Zone 8 is made up of 13 Regions in Southern California, Arizona, and Southern Nevada. We are a tight-knit group of clubs that enjoy working and playing together! The clubs within the Zone have collaborated to develop a common set of rules, as well as competitive series for Concours, Autocross, Drivers Education, Time Trials, and Rallies. The CFoS is an opportunity for all 13 Regions in Zone 8 to work together to put on a world-class event! To learn more about the CFoS you can visit its website by clicking on this link!

Last year was a complete success made possible by having enough volunteers to fill all the assignments with two volunteers in each shift on both Friday and Saturday! We were a little short on Sunday but managed to cover most of the spots with one volunteer but I am hoping this year to fill all the spots with two people.

We need YOU to make the 2018 CFoS a success! We have morning and afternoon shifts and you can sign up for more hours or multiple days if you wish. We had several volunteers do that last year!

As a thank you; you will get free parking, a volunteer T-shirt and lunch money if you work at least one shift. I will need your t-shirt size. Also, when you volunteer you are earning money for your Region! A portion of the CFoS profits are allocated to each Region based upon the number of shifts worked by volunteers. So, your contribution also benefits your Region!

Our goal is to have at least 400 volunteers. We had 350 volunteers in 2017. Zone 8 has over 13,300 primary and associate members and it would be great if we could meet our goal. Please contact me at if you are interested or have questions. I have already received several replies back from members offering to volunteer again this year and I will be filling in the assignments on a first-come first-placed basis. We need volunteers for: set-up, autocross, corral, grid, membership, traffic control (most important!), track tours, goodie store, and tear down. Shifts are 7:30 - 12:30 and 11:30 - 5:00; for track tours they are 10:30 - 1:30; and early greeters are 6:00 - 9:00. We have a new event for kids. This is not a baby-sitting service and an guardian must be with the child the whole time they are in this area.

Two important jobs we need to fill are:

A responsible member to be in charge of the radios. The volunteer must be available to work from Thursday until Sunday in an air-conditioned room all day. This is a very important position. If you are interested please call me for more information. We also need someone to be in charge of the corral.
A timing assistant. Someone who knows basic software (like how to use Word/Excel).

All volunteers in Grid must wear long pants. Last year we were caught off guard about this rule and I personally want to apologize for this if you were effected.

Please include your name, cell phone number, email address, shirt size and your region affiliation with all correspondence.

Remember, PCA is fueled by volunteers! For the CFoS you don’t have to be a PCA member, just be over 18 years old.

Let me know if you have any questions or need additional information.

Sincerely Yours,
Janice Witteried
CFoS Volunteer Coordinator
